1/4" Craftsman BE female ratchet adaptors wanted - buy or trade
« on: November 25, 2019, 01:36:05 AM »
I picked up this rat yesterday; it is similar to the one in the attached photo from the 1940 catalog.

I would like to buy or trade for the G & H adaptors depicted in the cat photo, if anyone has them or similar ones kicking around that would work.

Bonney made an adaptor similar to the "G" catalog one but it was 3/8" x 1/4". I have several, but they don't help you with a 1/2"er ratchet.

It's a 1/4" rat as in the thread title, George.   ;)

Bonney also made a 1/4-1/4 adaptor also, I know because I am searching for one!

I have that same ratchet. What I did was take a vintage 1/4" extension, whack off the end to the appropriate length, dimple the middle of the extension "sides" with a cold chisel so it wouldn't push through and blue Loctite'd the 'lil bugger so it wouldn't fall out.

Oh...and I home machined the 4 sides (from the round profile) so it would just drag through the square opening with decent friction. Yes, I know it has a ball detent for holding it, but that ratchet itself reverses and the head shape allows it to be operational from either facing.

There...that's my story. No pictures, just theater of the mind.

I found some for sale yesterday, new and german so not original but they will work if anyone is interested.

https://www.kctoolco.com/search.php?search_query=coupler&section=product

And they also have any other couplers (that is what they call them) you might need; 1/4-3/8, 1/2-1/2, 3/8-1/2, etc.

I just ordered two last night, so we shall see what I get.

Ooops. I saw BE and thought 1/2".  :-[

I have (3) of the 3/8" x 1/4". If you wanted to use 3/8" sockets with it I'll donate one of mine to ya!

It only took them about 3 days to get here, and they included a very nice torx bit also:

And here is one of them in my Bonney RF set:

That's very generous of you, George. I'm probably not going to be using it much, it's mostly to 'over'-restore my 1/4" BE set with pieces that didn't originally come with it.

That said, if it doesn't say "Bonney" on it, I would be thrilled to accept your kind offer. :) Otherwise, it wouldn't quite fit the theme.

Those are nice, Aaron - I'm gonna order some for the BE and another rat or 2 around here that are missing the plugs.

Thanks for the heads-up, pal.  :-*

(Why is there no thumbs-up in the emoji selection, Herb/Mods?)
