1970s WEN 14" chainsaw -
« on: December 05, 2018, 06:02:18 PM »
I recall that in a previous thread we talked about WEN tools and how they were underrated. Well, this one has been with me for decades and I use it to trim the branches and bushes around the house. Well last week it quit and didn't start. I figured the motor was shot, but after taking it apart and cleaning it, is turned out to be the switch.

The switch was gunked up with old oil and grease == the contacts were freed with a lot of electronic cleaner. After almost 50 years this thing works as good as new.

These things were a in a lower quality price category at the time, but it definitely has stood the test of time. I sharpened the chain and it cuts like new.

Those are pretty handy if you have enough cord.

Yup -- for around the house it's perfect, but what impressed me was the fact that this cheap 1970s model still works and functions like new. I've only cleaned it with compressed air and sharpened the chain over the years. Usually after many decades the plastic in these cheap power tools deteriorates quickly, but not this one.

I have a Ryobi electric that is more powerful than my Old Homelite gas . And the chains stay sharp longer.
I cut stumps with it and it wouldn't stall , but the gas engine would bog down.
I have Wen  soldering guns and sabre saw.
I think they are better quality then Black & decker homeowner grade.
