:)) Yup JAFE, it's my new addiction. I saw my successor standing behind my former boss, the Mayor on the Weather Channel today as he was giving a briefing. Glad I'm retired. I'd have to be living at the Emergency Center from tomorrow night to at least Saturday afternoon.

Better to be home at a time like this.

It does get addicting.

I know a little of hurricanes and tropical storrms here too and +
I am inland between the Gulf and the Pacific.  Neither is all that far.

Hang in there and stay calm.   I know well that a few possible natural disasters is the price of living in paradise too.

I have been through a bunch of hurricanes here on the Gulf Coast of Texas, and I do hope for you and yours to be safe.

Thanks Strik9 and Pawpaw. We just got back from Honolulu where we dock our boat. We live on the other side of the island. Gray sky, some light rain, but light winds so far. I ended up sticking around the marina helping other boat owners get their vessels ready to weather the storm. Rigged the mooring lines for heavy wind conditions. Nothing more to do but wait and see what happens in the next 24-48 hours.

That says a lot about your character - everyone is preparing for a hurricane and you take the time to help others.

good to hear your still safe. How long till it starts impacting your area? Weather channel is showing Wikikea live and it doesn't seem to be any storm yet?

Hi Slip Knot - looking outside, you'd never know a hurricane is coming. Gray skies, light breezes and light rain. They say that on Oahu, things will change in the next 12-24 hours. Big island of Hawaii is experiencing heavy rain and flooding. Every island is different. I did see large surf on the south shore in Honolulu earlier today. Not so much on the Windward side where I live. I'll provide updates as long as I can. Aloha,
Art

The wife and I vacationed in the islands last October. its interesting to see the areas we visited getting hit by a storm. The Hilton hotel we stayed at was on the weather channel broadcast. People were still out on the beaches.

Hilo already has >1ft of rain and the bay is really rolling. it was glass smooth when we were there. But kailua Kona only had a few .01s kinda funny how the peaks affect the winds and rains.

We dealt with hurricane Harvey a year ago and it was a mess. There are still houses that haven't been repaired locally. lucky for us we just had some trees blown over. only had one window broke out.

Stay safe.

We may have dodged the bullet. Shear winds are beginning to separate the storm thereby reducing its intensity. Lane is now a category 1 hurricane and is slated to be tropical storm strength in the next 12 hours. We still may get heavy rains and flooding. That said, I’m cautiously optimistic we’ll be okay. Stay tuned and mahalo to everyone for your support and prayers.   ^-^

I've been watching this one and seeing it blow apart out over the water is odd. Around here once a hurricane gets in the gulf of mexico the jet stream will move it around but we usually don't see it fall apart till it makes landfall.

Good to hear your ok.
