I like the sweeper too, and the driver is dressed nice.  Guessing its a saleman doing a demo or a boss in a photo op.

I noticed how he was dressed as well. It may have been the norm then. I saw some pix of a machine shop from the teens and the workers had on ties.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

I think the drivers is way too well dressed to be the normal operator.

I  know A lot of tradesmen wore ties to work, but that guy looks to be in a very nice suit and fine overcoat and nice shoes

I think you are right. I bet that is the mayor taking their new sweeper for a test drive in front of city hall.

Looked it up -- seems to be an Austin Western Street sweeper from the 1950's. They were top tier sweepers up until the mid/late 1970's
