Old manuals for casual reading in the shop --
« on: February 22, 2019, 07:35:46 PM »
i often just relax in the garage with a drink and a cigar where I've a collection of vintage manuals and literature to keep the interest. Most of you guys know that Petersen publications (besides putting out many automotive and sports magazines), used to publish quite a lot how-to manuals on anything car related back in the day -- from paint and bodywork to engine performance and fuel systems, chances are Petersen published a DIY guide for the task.

These days those old manuals can be had pretty cheap on Amazon -- usually for just a few dollars. Among the oldest manuals are these vintage Thompson and Chilton guides, and although not Petersen, they are very informative.

Just a few examples -- I usually pick them up at garage sales and flea markets.

Sounds like a Norman Rockwell pic.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?
