I’ve never seen a hand cranked mower before.

That brings back a vague memory from my childhood.

jeez we had one of those when I was a young'un. from what I remember it started about that same way when new.
And why did we have one? because its not too hard for the kids to start it and mow the yard. :D :D

Neat, I've never used one. My Dad was a LawnBoy guy with the 2-stroke, magnesium alloy deck.

Seems like a good idea for when it was new

I wish I had the spare change to buy it. I looks like it would be a cool restoration project.

We had one when I was a kid. I guess I used it long enough the novelty is lost on me. It was OK, but no big deal. I like electric start these days myself.

I remember this system mostly because the engine would almost start, when the spring wound down. Also the time the ratchet broke, and the winder about broke my knuckles. Remember if it was good why did they go back to a pull rope?

I think it was a RONCO product, Sears put their name on it.

I don’t think anything was a Sears original.

Maybe this was a transition from a rope with a knot, warped around a pulley. Used to start the early reel type law morrow.
Worked because the motor sat vertically. Where this having the it horizontal. Made the rope with knot, less efficient. The difference being pulling up as opposed to pulling sideways
Then along came the retractable, we see commonly today, just speculating.

This came out inthe mid sixties, rope rewind was present by the late fifties, on mowers and saws. Probably cost more to build that a rope rewinder. Think i have one on a briggs , in the barn.
