I sure hope I like it.
« on: April 12, 2020, 05:19:38 PM »
I have really wanted to try a 1/4 drive flex head ratchet, and since I have been loving my WRIGHT 2426 1/4 contour grip so much over the past year that I decided I wanted the flex head version of it.
I've been thinking about getting one for a while but $58 + shipping is not exactly chump change for a 1/4 ratchet, well having received my taxes recently I finally decided it was time.
I know I definitely didn't want to just get an import from HF.

Hopefully I find it actually useful for my my needs, but I'll just have to use it and find out.

It's a great ratchet. Working on modern cars -- especially under dash work, it pays for itself in no time. Less hand fatigue and reduced scrapes and bruises from squeezing into tight areas with regular ratchets.

After getting the 1/4" I also opted for the 3/8" drive in the same small form factor. Another great Wright product.

Working on cars for pay i have wornout 2 of them.  I prefer the steel handle like yours over the plastic, plastic too bulky

I like the idea of that 3/8 and it was actually a bit less expensive, but I don't think it's really something I need.
1/4 sockets go as large as I need in a ratchet this size.

I found an older MATCO contour grip 1/4"er for $1 at a pawn shop and it's the smallest overall profile 1/4" rat I have.

Your post about about that Matco version is what prompted me to try one in the first place.
I figured I could get a deal on Ebay, but I discovered people seemed to want as much or more for a used Matco rebrand than I could get a brand new Wright for so that's what I went with.

The Thorsen 77M is smaller but it feels a bit dainty compared to the Wright contour grip, the Wright feels better in hand and will most likely fit into the same places.

I find it amusing that the ratchets head is the same diameter as 9/16 and 14mm sockets.

I wonder if the flex head will have this same grip size or larger grip size of their 1/4 flex handle which is a bit beefier and dare I say feels just a tiny bit better.

I've been very pleased with the ratchet I have as well as my flex handle.

Probably the only US made 1/4 flex head you'll find for less new is a William's and they're a couple inches longer than this at least.
( found the William's available on sale for about $20 )

Got it today,  and its definitely a nice tool as I expected.
It is essentially a flex handle with a ratchet head on it which I expected.

I tried it out a bit today, and I really like it.
I don't know how often I'll truly need it but it will be great when I do.

Can’t go wrong with Wright Tools. My go to 1/4” rats are the Proto J4757F (re-badged Facom Palm Control) and the Mac Axis MR990FPA. 9” of 90 toothed, comfort gripped, flex headed, American Made, over-priced, 1/4” fury  :035:

You don’t even know you want a 9” long 1/4” ratchet.....but you do!  :)
