Nylon or Brass?
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

If it hasn't been cleaned for awhile- use brass first.  If you do regular maintenance , then nylon & swabs work well.

I have ended up buying boresnakes for every caliber and gauge I own. I take them with me when I shoot and run it through when I am done. It makes cleaning them a piece of cake when I get home.

Nylon doesn't play well with some of the copper fouling solvents.

I'm not a fan of nylon brushes. I prefer the brass brushes. Usually  by time I get a gun to clean it's pretty fouled and I'll be at it awhile. I'm a fan of Kroil for a solvent.

I had some blue colored solvent that worked really well on fouling. it even etched the brass brushes. it ate the paper label off soon after I got it and I don't remember what it was called now.

Don't go too overboard here. A few cotton patches now and then is usually more than enough. Any more takes out fouling that may be helping accuracy.
