Bead blast cabinet
« on: January 19, 2020, 02:23:17 PM »
This bead blast cabinet was donated to our EAA chapter by a aircraft restoration company on the airport. They bought a nice big Eastwood unit and gave us this one. We bought a new pair of gloves for it but no members have wanted to use it in 6 months so it has to go. I am waiting for the board to figure out what they want to sell it for and I will make an offer. I moved it when it was donated and it is not a flimsy cabinet as it has some weight to it. It comes with the shop vac as a dust collector and the light needs to be fixed. I have the compressor to handle it and I will make the room for it in the shop.
I just have to figure what I would pay for it.

I have an Eastwood cabinet that is 25 years old and now sells new for about $1,300.00.  It is about double the size of the one you show.  I have used mine extensively over the years, so I figure they last a long time.  I figure the one you show would be $200.00 tops, more likely about $100.00 would be about right.  Good luck!

200 plus what the club paid for the gloves.  That is assuming it works well and doesn't leak

I was at HF the other day to pick up some o-rings and looked at their blast cabinets.

The DISPLAY model's gloves had split just from customers putting their hands in.  ???

I have one of the HF cabinets and its barely usable. even after adding a vacumn , new gloves and a good gun. it gets the job done but it leaks out around the door. right where you look into it. sucks to wear a respirator while bead blasting.

I'd easily throw a couple hundred$$ for that one.

I will get the blast cabinet on Friday when I go to the airport for lunch. The board decided last night to sell it to me for $50. I was going to pay more but that is the price they came up with and it is no good to argue. I guess they appreciate the time I put in and the gas I burn doing things for the chapter.

Deal, deal, deal.  And that is the way it should be.  Its nice to get rewarded for your efforts from time to time.

$50 is a steal. Good on the group to recognize what you do for them

Very nice. They are top shelf cabinets for sure. I have a larger one at work. I made a new pickup tube out of 1/2 EMT conduit based on a standard internet design that allows air to be pulled in a parallel pipe down to where the media is so the tube doesn't clog. I use a 1/8 npt close nipple at the bottom cross-over and solder it up.

Here is the commercially made one, but they only take a few minutes to whip up from $3 worth of conduit. https://www.amazon.com/Skat-Blast-Sandblast-Cabinet-6442-274/dp/B01MR7WA5W/ref=pd_day0_hl_469_3/139-7443262-6534052?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01MR7WA5W&pd_rd_r=339db271-68bd-406e-bfa2-1ec40d863587&pd_rd_w=9598n&pd_rd_wg=9XPKT&pf_rd_p=531c5da2-92c8-47a3-8df6-cb5fa8f00603&pf_rd_r=N17BSEKPTBSPYWT02RH8&psc=1&refRID=N17BSEKPTBSPYWT02RH8

Thanks for the comments guys. Greyson thanks for the tube design and I'll check out what it has now. The wife told me she would order me a roll of the window underlayment from MSC on her next order with them.
A neighbor came over yesterday and we figured out what we need to get the 220V completed in the shop. When we wired the shop 220v we put in breaker boxes and receptacle boxes with wire run to everything. The only live 220v is the run to the opposite side of the shop to a breaker box which we used to run two circuits of 110v outlets along that wall. There is one receptacle box with wire for the 220v by the breaker box and that is where I'm going to mount the fused disconnect for the big compressor which will be right there. Getting the blast cabinet has forced me to finish the wiring that is in place because I need the bigger compressor. I will also now be able to use my welders as I will have the 50amp outlet towards the front of the shop. Now I won't have to bother the neighbor across the road to weld stuff for me. I have had the Hobart welder for over 2 years but no power and plug for it or so I thought. :021:

That is a great price.

I made one from 3/4" ply, using plans from TPTools. The materials were about $100.

If you need supplies, ie: gun tips, pick-up tubes, window protection film, ...., try them out. https://www.tptools.com/
