The Leetonia Tool Company.

Did you ever have one of those days when things were not going your way? Well after some time and a good break all the keys opened up the lock and out poured the missing information. It would seem when the company was stamping their name on the tool they left off the very first letter and that in part drove me "nuts" as they say...

The story of the Leetonia Tool Company for you on this nice Thursday evening, I so hope you like it.

Woodies post from gj

Sometimes I get confused, oh sure call it getting older but when it happens all I can do is sit down and take a deep breath...

I bought the following Napping Hammer No. 499 (for breaking up stones) at an old vintage antique store and it had a name clearly stamped on it, that in part said "EETONIA" Made in the USA. Easy I thought Google is my answer, but alas nothing was coming up! That is when I walked away and did something else, and later I returned to the problem at hand.

Low and behold my old eyes spotted a tool company that was not missing the first letter of "L" and that turned out to be Leetonia tool co. (Another tool company for anyone interested on the GJ ).

What I do know is they made tools for the mining industry in Leetonia, Ohio and they were incorporated in May of 1907. From my readings they made High Grade tools and they got their start with $10,000 dollars by 5 men, they were:

 H.T. Collins, W.R. Smith, J.T. Smith, C.S. Richards, and M.A. Colins

Interesting that later I found an account from 1918 that in part said "The Company is owned by men who formerly worked in the coal mines at Washingtonville and Leetonia, Ohio".

The next part is the fuzzy part because I do not have any more History of the company, although I found a Tool company still up and running on the web, for some strange reason it had a starting date of 1930? So I am not even sure if that is the same company?

Please take a look at the pictures , as I am sure you will get a good laugh at the missing first letter that in part drove me crazy... Also be sure and take a look at the following links for more information.

Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?
