That ship had a long run.  Very interesting

The Russians get value for money out of some of their ships. The one that they have got the best bang for their buck is the submarine salvage ship Kommuna that was  laid down at the Putilov Factory in St. Petersburg in November 1912 as Volkhov. The ship was launched the following year, and commissioned on 14 July 1915. She was renamed Kommuna on 31 December 1922. Kommuna has served in the Russian Imperial, Soviet, and Russian Federation navies through the Russian Revolution and two World Wars. In April 2022, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the ship was deployed after the sinking of the guided missile cruiser Moskva.

An interesting video about her

Nothing more nostalgic than an old time auto parts store. The smells, the uneven floors, and the old guys behind the counter that were walking automotive encyclopedias are mostly a thing of the past I'm afraid.

When the American troops landed here in 1942, to train before the Pacific Campaign, they were issued a booklet on life in New Zealand. This is the cover and contents page. Note the reference how we speak, I thought both nations spoke English.

A real interesting relic Rural. I think similar guides where issued to US govt/military members who visited any allied country. I recall that British citizens had a real problem with the way our mostly blue collar culture soldiers expressed and behaved themselves in Great Britain. Hence the need for education, because it was a culture shock for both sides. After the war, guides were issued to include former Rome-Berlin Axis countries as well. The military also issued some very "spicy" (for the time) booklets on culture specific nuances regarding brothels/prostitutes, sexual norms, and STD precautions/prevention. --

Must have been some VERY interesting reading for many a farm boy draftee from Bible-Belt rural America -- :c029:

Yep, the GIs were definitely rough around the edges for those Limeys, and tended to forget their manners.

Yep, that he did. A great actor indeed.
During WWII the War Dept. used many popular actors to do training, bond drive, and information films.

Gas prices increased $0.32 within just a few days last week in my area. That said, I'd hate to be paying the prices in the UK and other parts of Europe these days.
