Yes you missed one of the most important parts which is a
foreign crime syndicate is responsible. Environmental damage is severe with 22 acres which destroyed the native plants, chemical damage, human waste from 82 workers polluting the ground and trash. They also drilled illegal wells which caused trees near the wells to die. So they dumped chemicals which may leach into our aquifer and wash down in the watershed to cause more damage.
