Odd CL Prentiss Vise
« on: April 25, 2019, 02:12:23 PM »
Saw this one this morning. About crapped my pants because the title said 8" Vise and I have one of those on my bucket list of tools. I wish people would call out vise sizes correctly.

If it was 20 miles closer, I'd be interested. I don't think $125 is far off for the right guy. https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/tls/d/oregon-city-vintage-prentiss-8-vise/6874156557.html

I believe the open side slide is factory as a quick googlefu showed another the same way. I'm not sure why it would be open. The inner, serrated jaws are also something I've never seen before. Ideas on original use?

EDIT: My 200th post! Small milestone compared to some of you time wasters. lol

I'm sure most of you folks know that I most likely would have drove a couple of hours for that vise. I would have haggled price , but would have given in if needed. That's a cool vise.

Apparently they're pipe jaws.........................

Catalog at the link and it's downloadable as a pdf if you scroll down.

That looks similar to the Lewis patent Prentiss vises.
I have seen a couple others similar.
A gj member posted pics of a 6" combination swivel base vise that was huge and heavy. It was a C-channel slide model like op's.
