Just put 3 new bee hives in today
« on: April 04, 2020, 01:06:07 PM »
I didn't do bees last year and I really missed them.
This year changed from Italians to carniolans as they are suppose to do better in the cooler climates.
Interesting each hive has it`s own personality, the first box they were a bit stroppy ,the 2nd box really docile but the 3rd box was the proverbial box o bitches even stung me through my glove!!

Seriously one of the most rewarding things I`ve done.
Cannot recommend doing this enough.

Sounds like an interesting hobby. Now you need to get the bee keepers hair style - a buzz cut.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

I always wanted to. But the allergic reactions are a b  itch.

My bee chicka that helps me out is allergic but she does it anyway.
Once the hives are in place you can sit right next to them and just watch without getting stung.

And yeah I`ll be doing this in WY prolly just get a new colony though , don`t want em building wax combs in the glove box.

Nope, I had a bad experience with bees some years ago and the stings turned into 1 inch red discs and didn't go away for 2 weeks. Guess I'm allergic.

Plus I've watched too many bee vids on youtube. :-\

Come get the hive in the old grader tire, in the shop
If it wasn't for a colony of lizards attending it regularly I would have soaked them in diesel a week ago.

Big lizards too, they are eating well.

It can go either way. My grandpa was a bee keeper and he always said, that if you receive a lot of bee stings over time you'll either develop an immunity or develop severe allergic reactions. He was one of the lucky ones. He could walk up to his honey bee hives and work on them without any major protection -- no problem. Me on the other hand; just the opposite.

The wife hates the plants in the landscaping that attract hundreds of bees. Never bothered me and they all fly up when the exhaust hits them as I ride past on the mower.

Cool beans!
I have a few blocks of Mason bee's.
They are pretty much maintenance free.

Just move them into a hive and you`ve got free honey. Honey out of a hive tastes way different from the watered down stuff you get at the store.

Sorry, but bees far away are the only ones I like.  I know nothing of handling them beyond Raid products.

Again, the experience of youth didn't foster any love at all for these creatures.
