From Gisborne Photo News No 181 16th July 1969
"How would you like this in your backyard? It is the new Mercedes Benz tanker to carry beer from Hastings to Gisborne for Leopard Breweries. The complete unit is the largest carrier of draught beer in the country and was specially built for the Wairoa and Gisborne delivery aea. It has capacity of 4,600 gallons, the equivalent of three normal size tankers. The unit is 59 feet 4 inches long, has a maximum permitted weight of 36 tons and is supported by 26 wheels (12 doubles and 2 singles). It has built in refrigeration which enables the beer to be held at a constant temperature for several days if necessary. The driver's cab is fully air-conditioned and contains two bunks, draw curtains, blinds on the windows, reading lamp, head rests, shaving point etc. Beer is transferred to smaller tankers for local delivery, under pressure and all compartments are filled at the same time. Total cost was approximately $50,000. The driver is Ken Burgess."
