That would be an early Ford T with the firewall and top of the trans removed.  The oval gas tank is one clue, the lever is the one used  on a 1914 or later T.

Those early cars were soft by any standard.  Broke the axle off the springs and folded both frame rails.

Me too! It was a ritual in my family that when the new models came out in late summer/early fall , Dad and I (sometimes with Grandpa) would go and see the new models. Local Chevy, Ford, and Chrysler dealers used to dedicate one weekend as family day, and provided hot dogs, ice cream and pop corn when they received their first deliveries. It was quite a good time. Dad bought a 1962 Corvair during one of those visits.
