What brand is this screwdriver?
« on: October 01, 2018, 06:05:50 PM »
Picked it up today in a small lot. The steel in the shank looked quality, but not any branding, numbers, or letters anywhere on it.
Thinking USA made, with 8-flutes on the handle. Also the handle diameter seems a little small for the size and length of shank, IMHO. Tip has some wear but should easily clean up. Looks like it's missing an end cap of some sort. Hoping someone recognizes the handle shape. Different shank/handle transition, too.

Any guesses?

The quality in the driver shows. No clue of the brand, but I bet you it is older than you might think. Quite possible 1940's is my guess. I think many screwdriver handles were yellow colored in the 40's. I also think that manufacturers were toying around with a number of flute designs on the handles too.

I think all of that stuff because a number of my pops old screwdrivers from that time were as I just described.

Not totally sure, but it looks like an old Bell System driver -- they had those characteristics flutes on the front of the handle, and IIRC they were made by both Stanley and Irwin at some point

I think it is a Klien missing the rubber overhandle.

That was a good call.  I knew I had seen the design, couldn't see it without the rubber grip

Wondering if I should contact Klien for a slip grip or just plasti-dip the handle and use it as is? Heck I bet Flex-Seal would work, too.

Ol Phil Swift would be pleased to hear that.

Be interesting to see if Klein makes replacements available.

I knew exactly what it was the moment I saw it.
I had a WF Husky pro ratcheting bit driver with a super fat rubber grip on it which I had removed and it pretty much looked just like this underneath.
Always lookin' to learn

All joking aside, I do like the Flex products I've tried. At first i thought it was all a big gimmick, but every one of the products they make actually work and work well.
