Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

What do you want to do with the 22-250? Barrel burner 40 gr HP at lightning speed or 75-90 gr SMK for long range? I got a 250 last yr with a 26" 1:14 bull barrel. It's fun at the bench, but absolutely beyond worthless as a pickup gun due to the length and size.

Heavy barrels are nice if you're gonna go shoot a bunch. Wear inside increases rapidly as the barrel heats. Bull barrels will allow more shots back to back before cool down, but take much longer to cool. If you're going to shoot sage rats, it's best to take as many irons as you can. Then you can switch between them and keep from burning a single one down.

Personally, I'd go with the lighter barrel and try to maintain self control with round count. Slimmer barrels are so much more handy offhand or rested on the pickup mirror.

Either way, you can't not smile watching things turn to vapor downrange of a 22-250.

Oh and 220 Swift might even put a bigger smile on your face...

Actually for all round hunting of small game up to varmint and deer size --the 243 is a damn good caliber. Cheap enough and popular enough to offer a wide range of bullet options. The handloaders in my neck of the woods love it --

I second the 243 I have a cheap savage I started my kids deer hunting with and I like using it to.
MAGA

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, it must be electrical.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of those. Dad has a Ruger Falling block 22-250 that I grew up smacking groundhogs with. The next rifle I buy will be a varmint rig in either 22-250, or 6.5 Creedmore

Well I sucked it up and sent a cheque, figure now`s the time as I may have a mortgage in my future.
He (Ohio discount gun sales of Oklahoma) sent a pic of the Hunter .300. The stocks are all a little different so I wanted to make sure it was a purdy one and boy howdy what a beautiful gun.
The 22/250 have laminated stocks so their all about the same.
The cabbage should be there today so I`ve prolly got a good week before I see em.

Those Sakos are expensive enough Jabber can get by with cutting a slightly smaller check for the glass ;D Then another few hundred for dies & components and he'll be set.

That is a good looking piece of stainless and wood. What do you plan on taking down with that?

Deer and maybe Elk and definitely   plenty of targets.
As for optics , I`d like to get something that I can use on either the .300 or the 22/250.
Just not sure what that will be. So open to suggestions but must be stainless.
I looked up Zeiss and had an early senior moment :o :-\
