Title: SAKO AMMO FIND
Post by: ken w. on February 17, 2019, 09:55:18 PM
I went to a tiny local gun show Saturday and came home with some Sako  25-06 ammo made in the 1960's or 70's. Blue & black boxes. There's not a lot of info on these boxes of ammo. It's marked 6 gram bullet.

A 25 caliber bullet with the powder charge of a .30-06. Bet it's a speedster!   :-\

Nice hunting ammo there Ken. I used to be able to buy tons of Norma cheap years ago. I liked shooting the .44mag carbine rounds that had a 180gr bullet in my pistol instead of the 240gr that is the other option.

That's a pretty conservative load too. My good friend pushes 85 gr Noslers @ 3600 and 115 gr @ 3200 his 20" 25-06. My 20" 270 really likes a 90 sierra HP @3650, burning just shy of 58 gr of H414. Granted, case life on my load is awful and leaking primers are a common sight.

All the -06 parent cartridges are fast buggers. A slow twist 6mm-06 is on my bucket list as well to send 55 gr Varmageddons at warp speed.
