Chicken shit fill weld, saving money again.
« on: March 31, 2020, 05:23:56 PM »
The old Cat 426 had some play in the boom lift on the tail.  My job was to fill weld with 6013 and grind it out until a pin fit without slop.
The seat of the tail costs more than the entire fleet of Chryslers Muddy keeps in the tall grass out back, so new was out of the question.

This is with the old worn pin.  The new one comes next week.  Some final fitting will be required but its pretty close.  I cannot adjust now for an unknown size pin.

That looked like no fun. Days of grinding and welding. What's the exchange rate on Chryslers down there?

I can get a low miles Cirrus/Stratus/PTloser for less than the price of a beat to shit VW bug.  The damn antichryslers never ran well enough to put miles on them.

Body and interior cherry at that.  The owner always drove his other car.

K cars were better and the vans highly quoted, even if a DamnNearBenz version.  Few are really that good but people never learn.
The late model trucks have thier issues but most can be worked to death at least.  Not highly quoted in price.

It was about 5 hours work filling both sides and passing the pin.  Not too nasty as a breeze kept the smoke pulled away.

I didn't even start the hydraulic hoses on fire.

Poor man's line boring sucks, but it sure beats a sloppy pin. Time to build a bicycle powered boring bar. Nice work!

It was five hours I wasn't dropping valve banks off that lovely backhoe.  I utterly hate hydraulic work.
