Mobile Shop Table
« on: November 19, 2018, 06:27:58 PM »
A couple years back, I picked up an old Lyon brand factory table from a surplus sale at work.  I did some upgrades to it and made myself a mobile work/welding table.  Anyhow, some family friends really liked it and asked if I ever had the opportunity, I would build them a similar table out of another Lyon table from work.   This fall I bought another table, added some shelves that I made, beefed up the frame and added casters, put on a 1/4" thick steel top, a vise, a powerstrip with USB ports, a paper towel holder and an aerosol can rack.  Lastly, I shot some paint and added a CaseIH logo since that is what they farm with.

Quite impressive.

If you could figure out a plan you could easily sell those to folks for profit. Maybe team up with an implement dealer, or dealers and offer them in green, red and blue, depending on the brand. I think they would sell like hotcakes, especially to farmers since many have shop buildings large enough for a rolling bench like that to be very practical. Perhaps even offer several models like one that was customized for wire welders or torches. I think you might be missing a great opportunity to not develop that idea further.

That looks very first class Scott. I have a 6' Lyon workbench in the shop. We had 4 of them with 2 having Wilton bullet vises on them but sold them and I kept the best one with a drawer in it.

Thanks for the good words everybody!  ;D

The thought has crossed my mind to make a couple more of these and fish for some buyers.  The Lyon tables are expensive new, but I can get them cheap every fall if a couple become available at work.  Otherwise, I do have a plan in my head to build from scratch.

I'd be happy to build a John Deere table for you, muddy!!  I also think a Steiger themed table done in the Steiger green with black trim would be sharp looking.
