Yesterday we cleaned up around the house and had some family and friends over to celebrate sam's birthday (was the 16th).

I forgot Sam's birthday is the same day as mine. Happy birthday to us  :08:

Happy birthday Sam and Rural!

People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

Re-powered my lathe

The old Craftsman motor I had on there was starting (OK, long past) to need a new condenser and the original is no longer made (its the type that looks like an old deck of cards) I can across this mid-sixties Dayton, which is the same power, lighter, and easier to adjust its mounting. And it had a Drum switch already wired. So, added a Plywood extension and solid mounted it. Works like a charm, but I need to go back and switch some wiring in the switch as it is turned around.

I also picked up a little milling attachment, and I wanted to make sure everything fits the way I want it too.

That motor looks very age appropriate on your lathe. Is that one of the original milling attachments?

What a day -- decided to winterize the cars and be proactive (for once). Flushed the power steering fluid in the Caddy. Used the old "drain 'n fill" method to repeatedly replace the reservoir fluid after running the engine and turning the wheels back and forth after every fill. Took a while to do, but now the fluid is running pretty clear.

Last  Friday, I decided to ride back with my son to Myrtle Beach. It's about a 11-12 hour drive from where I live in Ohio, and figured  he could use a co-driver.  Spent the weekend and got a flight home this morning.  It was my first time on a airplane since 1983.  I'm not a big fan of flying, but Myrtle Beach to Cleveland only takes a little over a hour.

No, its a Palmgren. The Atlas/Craftsman ones require removal of the tool post slide, while the Palmgren slips over the tool post. You can put it on in ten seconds. It isn't great for big things and deep cuts, but works ok for Woodruff keys and milling flats on barstock. Things like that.

Prices for both are usually way too much, but I was offered a good price on this one. Then again, they are all cheaper than an actual mill.

And it starts again.
Only a few fields of beans even look close to that and I bet they would be way to high moisture to give a go on. The cooler weather brought this weekend seemed to bring on the sileage wagon parades.
