I wonder what the logistics were on moving those beams. How far did they have to travel and did they have enough rigs to get all ten to the jobsite at once?

These ones only came 10 miles. They have been shifting some bigger ones ( 60T, 132,000lb, 40m , 130' ) over 160 miles. There are three rigs that can shift them in town.

The beam is supported at each end and forms the vehicle. The rear jinker is powered and driven by a second driver in the prime mover cab. This is a recent innovation, until a couple of years ago the rear jinker was a low truck.

Thanks Rural. Heavy hauling has come a long way since the late 70's when I had a hand in it. When we sent the 1/4 sections of condensers off to nuclear plants around the world they left our plant on rigs with 96 tires and the condenser bridged the front and rear trailers and 2 trucks with 1 pulling and 1 pushing. We could only send the titanium tubed units by truck and the copper nickel tubed units had to go by rail on 8 axle railcars due to the weight.

Used a tractor to move a tractor and blew a hydraulic hose. Other than making a mess before I could shut it down, no harm was inflicted on the vintage fleet.

Oh...and I found some termite damage in some wood on the ground. Arrrrgh!

Took a road trip on the 4th, 85 miles each way. Surprising little traffic for the holiday.  Bought a used JD lawnmower, it had went thru high water, but the price was right.  Is the same model as one we own.  Drove around Nebraska City,  visited  some sites in the old town.   Went to unload the mower deck with my loader tractor, and it ran out of gas, so another trip to town.

Here ya go Jabber, My newest EDC.

About 6 months ago the urge to pack a little more power overtook me and I began a search for something a bit more potent than the .38 I was carrying. Not a big fan of striker fired handguns and have always had a soft spot for the 1911s. Decided on the Kimber ultra carry II 45ACP with some minor upgrades from Wilson Combat.

Not really, Kinda jam prone until I got the bugs worked out. The mag it came with was a Chip McCormick mag it sucked. I got a couple of Kimber mags, they sucked too. Finally got a Wilson combat mag and it fed fine. been using them with no feed issues at all. I'm working on adapting a Wilson 22lb flat main spring into it next. They only go down to 3.5 inches and the little kimbers at 3inches so I got to tinker with the spring some.
The grips slabs are squared off and would leave a blister after some extended range times. A different set of rubberized grips solved that problem.

I'm still less than a grand into it so overall not too bad considering what some of the top end 1911s go for.

Finally finished the bathroom remodel. Hired a plumber to remove and replace the shower, toilet, and vanity. I would repaint and redo the floor tiles. Then they didn't install a sliding shower door, so, I had to do that. Now I know why I never became a plumber!

Anyway done and looks good and works well.
