Today continued the cleanup of my new pickup.  Bought it on an on-line auction, 97 Chevy 2500, extended cab, 4x4.  Picked it up at the salvage yard it has been hiding for 10 years.   Dirty doesn't describe it, scooped 300 lbs out of the box, and in its location in western Ne. the floor had not rusted. What is special to me, is zero body rust, all too common here for the 89-98 series pickups.  Little things gone,  but nothing not readily available.  Oh yeah, pickup was 400 miles away, each way, well we never had a vacation this year.  Hooked my car trailer to a rented Dodge Duallie,  was a fun trip.

So Midnitemack and I are cruising around Christchurch in his Kenworth with about seventy, or more, other trucks on the Dave Carr Memorial Rally. Dave Carr was a truck photographer and this Rally is an annual rally in his memory.

The first stop is Ferrymead Tram Museum.

Big lathe in their mechanical workshop.

After having a look through the workshops we went for a ride to the main Ferrymead Museum site on their steam hauled tram.

What a great idea to honor a truck enthusiast in such a manner. Looks like a real fun time --

Definitely need to plan for the 100 Years of Kenworth.

I got home about midday.

So why was my carry on bag much fatter on the way  home than on the way down?

Because it had this 5L (1.5gallon) dry bag in it on the way back.

Thanks to Midnitemack's contacts there was 2lbs of whitebait, plus some other goodies, in the dry sack. The newspaper wrapped half pound packs stayed frozen. The unwrapped 1lb pack had stared to thaw, so I scrapped then thawed whitebait off for consumption later tonight and put the rest in the freezer.

It’s not always that easy …….

It’s a delicacy caught in the rivers here near where the rivers run into the sea , we cook it just mixed with beaten egg like an omelette.

New Zealand whitebait are the juveniles of five small freshwater fish species which live as adults in freshwater rivers and streams. The larvae hatch in freshwater then are carried to sea on the outgoing tide. After approximately six months, the juvenile fish migrate back into freshwater habitats.

They are 1.5" to 2" long. They can also just be cooked in butter with some salt, pepper and lemon. The only issue is they are a pain in the proverbial to fillet.
