Well, I get the "bait" part, and recognize the fact that like many regional dished, it's an "acquired" taste.  :c029:

Pep, do they have metal handles?  If so, good grab.  I have a nice set branded Black Jack.  Best tire pluggers I have ever used

Yes, side by side

Black Jack, looked it up, had I seen that before I'd be an owner.

Not really an "acquired" taste. After a couple of minutes cooking they turn a pure white like most freshwater fish. They are a delicate taste, the only fish I don't cook with a little bit of garlic.

Interesting - do you enjoy it just like that, or also pair it with a side dish such as potatoes, pasta, or rice?

Bon appetite!

No, generally only with bread and butter. I ate those ones with some fresh buttered buns.

Whitebait are so expensive, up to NZ$100/lb (US$60/ib) and are such a delicate flavour they are only really eaten by themselves as a fritter (egg only or with a little bit of flour) or plain like I did.

Very good Rural, that makes a lot of sense. Looking at your pics, I think I would enjoy this delicacy. Thanks for the lesson on Whitebait -- I learned something.

On as side note, here in the coastal areas of the mid-Atlantic states, many people enjoy fish roe or blue crab roe added to their morning eggs and omelets. A regional delicacy that makes some folks from other parts of the country often cringe.

November hasn't been too kind. First I had to replace the washing machine. Then the well pump needs new wiring and then the car battery dies.

Let's hope to finish the year out with anything else going wrong

Things been kind of smooth lately.  Had bought a pickup, many miles away, been arranging with a hauler to bring it home.  Phone calls tell me the hauler went to get it, the lot owner can't find it.  If it doesn't turn up soon,  he will refund my money.  Was wanting the truck for another winter project.  Heck.

Had a severe rain storm last night and the water deluge coming down the roof ripped a downspout right off the gutter. The water pressure must have been close to that of a small firehose to cause that much damage. It sounded like a small explosion when it let go. Time to install a more secure downspout system and hope it withstands a higher load next time.
