Medicinal advice
« on: May 26, 2019, 05:19:19 PM »
During the open house Muddy's wife, goodfellow and I were talking about meds we were taking, and I thought I'd share some of the things I've learned and use. Maybe the facts would prove useful to somebody.

Cholesterol control - I do Metamucil daily. It lowers cholesterol indirectly. It clings to bile acids in the intestines, preventing their re-absorption by the body. The liver then has to break down some of the body's stores of cholesterol to make more bile acids for digestion.
I also take pantethine. A tip I got out of Dr. Atkins book. It's a CoQ10 precursor (itself a heart helpful chemical) that's a great cholesterol buster. I can't take statin's - I'm one of the 2% that can't handle them. Anything that has "-or" on it is a statin (Zocor, Lipitor, Crestor, etc) Pantethine lets me deal with cholesterol without the side effects of statins, and it doens't have any side effects of it's own. Find it at the natural grocery store.

Arterial plaque - I take grapefruit pectin. Not only does it aid in digestion, it specifically targets heart and brain blood vessels and slowly over time dissolves the plaque in those areas, increasing blood flow and reducing clots. My symptoms have been greatly reduced since taking it.

Sore joints and muscles - I use bay oil. There's a bay product called Superior 70 Bay Rum that I bought for use as a nice soothing aftershave. Come to find out this particular product in made in Puerto Rico for use as a liniment. I started using it as such, and the Mrs. foot soreness is helped as well. Those ladies shoes are killers! :D

I will definitely be making use of that info. I don’t have insurance and can’t get a prescription for Lipitor. I gotta lose some weight. I haven’t taken my BP medication in a LONG time.

Yeah, BP I haven't had the best luck with beating.
I despise prescriptions, and so avoid them as much as possible. And my doctor is supplement friendly, and is open to letting me try natural solutions before hitting me with meds. great guy!

Many first steps to controlling BP are diuretics. By removing excess water from the blood, the blood volume drops and with it the internal blood pressure. Although you can go too far and then the blood gets thick and you have supply issues to the organs. Only thing is many prescription diuretics have adverse side effects and are hard on the kidneys.
I take taurine, an amino acid that acts as a strong diuretic - without the typical side effects like potassium depletion. It is powerful - be prepared for often trips to the bathroom. It dries my eyes out something terrible, and I haven't taken it during the summer months when I perspire alot. I could get seriously dehydrated. I gonna have to watch things closely now that it's getting hot.

Why?  This is not rocket science.  Get insurance on healthcare.gov.  See a Doc.  Take the BP pills.  If they cause side effects, tell the Doc, and get a script for a different BP med.  Many now have no side effects.

HIGH BP WILL KILL YOU.

For those with high homocystine levels (which is connected to cardiovascular issues):
I take trimethylglycine (TMG), another health food store supplement. Safe and effective, my blood work has improved significantly since taking it.
