I now own a wood late ( sort of )
« on: December 28, 2022, 11:55:09 AM »
I just got this " lathe " for Christmas.

I never knew they made little mini wood lathes like this, but it's pretty cool.

No it's not really a serious tool, but I've already been missing with it and the thing is definitely fun.
I plan to make a scratch awl handle or two and maybe a small wood screwdriver handle or two for the first projects.
I'll bet this thing would be great for kids.

I really like this thing, I would much rather get a more novelty toy-ish tool like this than some cheap Chinese hand tools.
It's just cool and fun, probably limited and not that great but I will definitely have fun with it.

I already tried making a little awl, the handle went fine but I drilled the hole crooked.

Next time I'll use the drill press to get the hole straight.

pretty cool little machine.
You might try drilling a small hole in the handle before you turn it. that would keep the hole centered better. Maybe start with an 1/8in. hole that will fit your drive screw. Then once you get it turned you can enlarge the pilot hole to whatever dimension required for your tool

Very cool, and nice work!

Micro Mark has a ton of small scale tools. Some very cool stuff.

Too bad they don't have an inexpensive set of small wood turning tools, the ones that came with this are the cheapest possible useless junk with blades that might have been made from soup cans.

I think Harbor freight has an inexpensive set that should be good enough.

Inexpensive and good often don't go together. Although $150 this set looks very well made and equipped.

I get it, but don't want to spend that much when this $60 little machine may not even last.

I will find myself an inexpensive set that's serviceable, having to tune and sharpen them is no big deal.
