Vintage drill indexes
« on: December 23, 2018, 03:51:00 PM »
When I first started collecting tools I collected drills and drilling tools and these were picked up at the same time.  The first is Cleveland twist drill (check the e-bay price if you want a surprise) and it appears to be cast brass.  The second one is Morse twist drill and I had enough bits to complete it.  That one comes apart and can be opened up.  It is also cast and appears to be white medal and not aluminum.

Those are both quite nice examples. I have seen the prices on both and it is very sobering to see what they seem to go for.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

Very cool. Lots of them were made here in Cleveland back in the day.

I have a triangular one like the Morse example sitting in the shop. It used to be in the wife's shop on a post next to the old W/T drill press. That portion of the shop was built in 1947 so I guess I better see what is under the green paint.

We had a gaggle of nice examples posted on the old site. Perhaps the members will dig into their pic archives, and post them up again. Many were works of art along with being functional.

Looks good Don, your Cleveland Twist Drill index is for the larger bits and mine is for the very small one---Coolmercury

Yeah, yours is for number bits and mine is for fractional bits. I like em both.

The slick deal would be having a letter index for a triple play
