Vintage Snap-on
« on: August 09, 2019, 09:00:45 PM »
Digging around in an estate sale today, out in the country south of Eugene, I can across this in among the rusty junk:

I think that it is a '25 to '27 Snap-on ratchet. If it is, it is the first one they made, not given a part number and marked Milwaukee, the first place they manufactured at. It is non-reversible but missing the drive plug. My plan is to give it JAFE juice to get it ratcheting again, and then de-rust.

This was a place I never thought to find something like this. I thought the chances outside of Wisconsin were pretty much zero.

It'd be interesting to know the drive size...........could it be the elusive 7/8" drive?

So, I was able to get it working without much trouble, but it does seem really fragile. Here it is with some of the Snap-on stuff I have from the same period, in what I think is an old Blackhawk set box:

Haven't really gone to town with any Evaporust as I think it might be too fragile inside for that, but now I just need to find some more of the right sockets. Also, I have no idea what he original drive plug would be like, so I just grabbed one of the extras I have around.

They have a cap to retain the plug when you pull off the socket.

Someone made some repops not too long ago. Can't recall who but there was a thread about them on one of the sites - maybe over at collecting Snap-on. Maybe there are some still available.

That does look like my Blackhawk box. My ratchet is slightly newer than yours with multiple year markings.
