Loved those Gremlins and Pintos. I worked flat rate in the 70's , lot's of work on those, easy to beat the rate.

I had a 76 pinto. other than the catching on fire thing it was pretty tough. The only trouble I had was timing belt crapped out but it could have been my fault. Who knew they were supposed to be changed out ???

I made a lot of beer money working on the Chrysler K cars.

I see a lot of lists like this on the net, usually from some self styled automotive writer that has near zero experience with any of the vehicles he condemns.   Went through most of the list, King Midget?   Quit building these glorified golf carts 50 years ago, when emissions and safety caught up with them.  More of a toy than a real car.  Chrysler K cars?  How were they worse than the Chevy Citation/and other early front wheel drives.  Was the Ford Escort in there?  Get it hot once and the head gasket would blow.  Chevette, and I drove some new,  was way better car than the Vega, plus they gave terrific gas mileage, 40mpg on several trips I took.   Rode along with the owner of a Diesel Chevette, 45 MPG across the Missouri hills.   Corvair, guess he didn't realize the Corvair had a safe patented fuel tank,  decent cars if properly maintained.  Couldn't finish the list, didn't see the point.   Probably a wannabe CarandDriver magazine writer that once confessed since they lived in NewYork City, none of them owned any cars!   Just a wannabe expert.

I favor this assessment.

John K, I don't put much stock in these lists either.  Usually they're click bait and make you go to another page to see each car.  Since this one was all one page, I scrolled through it.

A lot of it I think depends on how you define things like worst. An eight wheeled vehicle that had a production of one single vehicle may be a failure in terms of sales but how did it perform?

My brother had a Fiat that was one long and expensive repair. He either couldn't drive it because something broke or drove it with something needing to be fixed. Not sure if that was just an example of a bad build on one vehicle or representative of the brand. Either way that car would be on my list 25.

And we haven't even started talking about Renault.

Renault's?  :-\    Fiats were designed for a country just a bit bigger then Arizona.

I may be the only person to get good use out of a K car. I had a reliant wagon that hit 300k with one clutch replacement and a few belts.

No one could ever agree on which 25 cars should be on the list.
I will always remember when my dad's cousin who was a Cadillac salesman stopped by the house with the brand new Cimarron. We were used to the whole family piling into the car along with his. We could barely squeeze 2 of us in the back seat that had no leg room with a tall driver.

No mention of Simca?  Dad had one in the early 60s. Ran good until it would just die. Then dad would have to hop out and put the carb back in place.

One of my wifes friends had a K car convertible that she drove for years and years with who knows how miles on it. The top was more memory than fabric and the interior not much better but it still ran when she got rid if it.

The Renaults were not great cars by any definition but I'd still love to have a 4CV.

The Renault engine was probably why the DeLorean made the list :D

The DeLorean used a PRV (designed by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo) engine it was doomed to fail as soon as pencil hit the paper. But I think it would have failed no matter what engine it had.

Was the Renault le-Car on the list?   Friend got one for his wife,  ran up over 700 in repairs in under a year none were covered by warranty.   Oh, just saw another list on the net,  Bricklin is featured as a favorite.  Where was the S-10?  Had a S-10 Blazer that had things just break getting in the car.   Intake leaked, took out the bearings,  4 wheel shifter needed monthly repair.  Doors hinges welded on.

:-\ $33K damn. I got an almost complete 72 hatchback in the pasture I'd let go for $33.00 I'll even leave the 6point cage in it. :)  it'll weigh more as it goes across the scales.

The Chevette was a POS but you couldn’t kill that motor. I worked with a guy who changed oil in one and forgot to put the oil back in, drove 5 miles, came back and filled it and it just kept going. Pinto would have been better with a timing chain, belts weren’t that great in the 80’s. Gremlins and Pacers had the 258 motor that would run forever but had carb issues. If you could just put one car together with all the best pieces you wouldn’t have to ever buy a new car.

Worst car I ever owned was a 1981 Cadillac Eldorado.  One of the first with four wheel disc brakes, couldn't get it to stop unless you first put it in reverse and slammed on the brakes each time you used it.  Was a 4-6-8 and it never figured out which one it wanted to be in, so it was in the shop a lot.  Had four different computers and they kept going out.  I left it on the side of the road several times.  After three computers---about $350 each time I let someone else have it.  A week later I noticed it on the side of the road.

I also like some of the cars on the list.  Had a buddy who's Dad had a Mark IV.  Man I loved that car.  Really did the Imperial also.  Notice a land yacht trend here :D

Vegas, Pintos and Chevettes were new right before I started driving and rode in lots of them.  Didn't seem any worse then most cars on the road at the time.  Worked in a gas station and used car lot so we saw a lot of them.

Agree on the LeCar -- worst damn thing ever. It rattled and creaked like a bucket of loose bolts. Even worse were the wet cylinder sleeves that were a pain to get right because the damn sleeve gaskets most always leaked. Mechanically it was a good idea, but Renault executed that design terribly.

I must be the only person that liked a Pinto. I drove a hatchback in HS for some years, and it was a great car -- reliable, needed little maintenance and the automatic was good enough for short urban driving standards of the time. Not a flashy car and the interior was made of cheap plastic, but reliable as anything on the road in those days. My neighbor's VW had more problems than my Pinto in those days. The only big issue was rust -- salty winter roads literally rotted it away while you watched.
