This car has been in my family since new.  My father's brother in law in Germany worked for Mercedes Benz.  He bought the car new in 1966 in Germany, drove it for a year, then sold it to my dad in 1967.  My parents were living in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the time.  My dad travelled to a port in California to pick it up.  The car was driven regularly from then until about 1978 when we moved from Virginia to Michigan.  It was driven sporadically in the years after until the mid '80s when I believe it was last driven.  Anyway, getting the car from Michigan and transporting it down here was the last step to cleaning out the house.  We brought it down the first weekend in October.  I never imagined spending my first wedding anniversary with my brother instead of my wife, but that's how it worked out.  She completely understood and was okay with it as she knows how important the car is to me and my brother.  Anyways, I'm storing it for him now until he can take possession of it and hopefully get it back on the road.  Hope you like the pics.

That's a classic old Benz all right, nice to be able to keep it in the family.

What a great car - congrats. My uncle had one and I learned to drive the steering column shift manual on that car. It was a great experience. The six cylinder engine was one of their best - ever!

I looked at the pic closer - the badge says 220 - is it a 200 diesel or a six cylinder 220 gasser?

It is a 200D.  At some point there was some bodywork done on the car and for some reason the 200D emblem disappeared and the guy put a 220 emblem on it.  Also, you may have noticed the taillights are different.  Another story behind that I'm sure.  Also, the front Mercedes star that's above the grill was stolen in the last couple months while the car was at the house in Michigan.  That still pisses me off.

The car was originally an auto trans but was converted to a manual trans in the early eighties.
