dale a deike april 8, 1029 - july 1, 2018
« on: August 14, 2018, 08:06:17 AM »
it's good to be back guys. the last 5 weeks have been a struggle for me. as some of you know, i lost my dad the 1st of july. for obvious reasons i lost about 2 weeks  and with only about a week to get ready rolled right into wheat harvest. i finished my wheat last thursday and helped my buddy who had been helping me finish yesterday. we have been hot behind the combine doing tillage so i only have about 100 acres of wheat stubble left to work as well.

anyway, here is a couple pics of the bulletin from the service.

i would also like to thank those that have reached out to me. my visits on the phone with uncle buck, goodfellow, scoutdriver and the fat man have have meant a lot to me. last but not least was elroy .  a card, letter and phone call from someone i didn't really know seemed to come at just the right time. a time when all of my friends at my usual getaway on the gazette were not available  to me.

you may catch a few peeks of skfarmer that you will never see any other place if you watch the video.

my best friend, the "big norski" reads the scripture at about 13 minutes of the service. the hardest part of the whole day for me.

I watched that Harlan. I loved the inclusion of Paul Harvey's "The farmer" how very fitting!

Very glad to see you back. That was a great tribute to a great man but still I am very sorry for your loss.

Biggest funeral I ever attended was the dad of my old college room mate. The man lived in a small town in central Missouri and had farmed there his entire life, generations of family had been there. When I arrived for the visitation I recall standing in a line for something like an hour and a half before getting to the front of the line. So many trucks parked it looked like an FFA convention or something. So many people in the funeral home the place was crammed to capacity and overflowing to the outside. Never have I ever seen such a well attended visitation.

Thank you for posting that Harlan. Your father was salt of the earth and sounds like many of my relatives in Iowa. Family, church, community and hard work on the farm is/was their life.

funny you say that. my grandfather moved  here from the plainfield area of iowa. he and his brother married 2 sisters. double cousins  have linked 2 families closely for nearly 100 years.  many of them made the trip here for his funeral and many  other events. i have also made the trip there many times.

Having a family history like that and getting to live that out is an incredible gift and blessing that few have or get to know these days. An old school approach to life if you will, one better than we have today.

the 730 in many of the pictures came home this evening. i made the run and it took about an hour. it was at my son's, in a friends garage and was on display at the county fair and at the tractor supply tractor show since the funeral. it also made a few trips around town. amazing how many people honk and wave at an old tractor. anyway, it was a bittersweet trip.  glad to have it safe at home but wish someone else drove it home.

he sometimes drove me crazy, but i sure miss him being around. it is  so quiet. he was always doing something that made noise.

Glad you got the tractor home.  Your Dad had a great fulfilling life that is witnessed by the turnout to his service.  That fact that he drove you crazy was him getting back at you for the goofy things you did as a kid :))  Hopefully we will all have that opportunity  someday ;D
