So, we pulled the trigger on an ebay plasma cutter. I have to say, this thing is awesome. Son is there operating it. Said it was way better than the one they used in his tech class but attributed that to all the students beating on the classroom unit. Either way it sure does cut faster than a sawzall.

A plasma will spoil you. I have access to a big esab at work that will cut 1/2 in with ease. Still haven't bought one for the home shop tho.

It sez it can cut up to 1/2" but I doubt I'll even see if that is true. I bought it to cut the quarter panel off a roller car I bought to have parts to repair my car that got run into.
I also pulled the trigger on an AHP alpha Tig 201xd. Don't need a tig but have always wanted one. This is suppose to ship the 25th. There is a full on 114 page thread on the weldingweb.com

I have a deal brewing on a pair of 150cf cylinders, one argon and one c25 for my little wire feed. I am hoping to be able to get the quarter hung straight. Then I have to see about the paint. Lots of learning.

Nice , I nabbed an Esab 875 off Craigslist about 2 years ago. I`ve not had the opportunity to use it yet but cannot wait.

Handy as heck, but consumables are hard to find for some of the cheaper Chinese models. I have a very cheap unit bought about 15 years ago and although it does well, finding the right tips, nozzles, and collets is getting harder every year. Best advice, if you're in the same situation, -- stock up now while they're available.

Can you put a whole new cutter head on yours? I bought one and about 120 pc of consumables for ours.

Not sure but I figured for a few bux it is better to have and not need than need and not have.

Good planning on your part; you won't regret it. I also bought an extra torch body and all the cheap Chinese consumables I could find on ebay at the time. These days I'd be SOL if I hadn't spent a few extra $$. That said, I didn't expect the damn thing to last as long as it did. I bought it for one big project and expected it to go "belly up" at any moment. Fifteen years on and it still works, but it's only a 30A unit (and even the 30A output is questionable).

I would not want to be without a plasma cutter, I have 4 of them, from 30 amps to 85 amps

Did some more fun with plasma today! I managed to get the big cord and a short adapter cord so I can run the plasma and AHP machine on 240V. It ain't fancy and Id love to run a dedicated circuit to garage but at this time that isn't going to happen. So In/Out the window to the dryer plug it is for now.
I'm doing a stand for the grinder and vice much like this one. I'll have way more time in it than it is worth but I'm having fun so that is all that I'm counting for now.

Bolting was your best bet. I'm no expert but I think welding cast to none cast is a tricky thing.

I finally got off my backside on sat and did some out door activity. Ive been wanting one of these vise stands ever since I saw one like that pic I posted above. I got the vise for a job around 2008. I spent time in the oil field from 06-10. I'll post the vise story in another thread to keep this on topic with the plasma cutter title.
I was cutting stuff with the cutter and posted up a vid on the youtube.
It works real good. I'm sure with some more practice I'll get the hang of it.
