ever buy a tool just because?
« on: September 15, 2019, 02:37:35 PM »
Have y'all ever bought something that you didn't need but you couldn't leave it behind?

Yesterday I saw a tool sale sign at one of the local church resale shops. Picked up a few small tools, some very ugly snappy wrenchs then came across a gem. I don't need it, don't collect these things but I know how hard to find the drive plugs can be. A 3/4 drive Plomb made its way home with me.

That's the story of my life... That and guns, car parts or whatever flashy item catches my eye.
That's a nice old piece there.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

Shoot, even if it doesn't spin you could give to the wife as an assault prevention device. Imagine getting hit on the side of the head with that!  :-\

Though I admit that would be tool abuse.

Nice score. Ive done it countless times. Its hard not to stop myself sometimes. Especially with channellocks and usa adjustable wrenches.....how many crecent wrenches does a man need? Infinity i guess.

You should get it cleaned up and lubed and then find a nice box for it. Preserve it for the next generation

Heck, alot of tools I've bought in the past two years were "just because I thought I might need them". Now with all the pawn shops dumping tools or closing outright - and tool stores in general hard to find - I'm glad I did what I did back then.  ;D

4C on the drive plug? I think that is 1934, maybe someone else can confirm...

...I like having my 3/4 stuff around, just used my 1-1/2" Bonney socket today actually, on my Wright breaker...

I grabbed a supa cheap SK Wayne 3/4 rat a few weeks back, just cuz it was cheap. Definitely don't need it, but something like that you could definitely pass along. Smart grab.

Most of the tools I own were unplanned purchases, often being duplicates! Usually unintentional on the duplicates, but if the price is cheap enough I don't care. Just because is a totally valid reason for a tool purchase if you ask me.  ;)
You boys better hold on cause I'm gonna have to stand on it!

Who needs to have more of a reason to buy a tool other than the fact it is old and a Plomb? That is a great grab/save and would match my 30's 3/4dr Plomb sockets.

Most of my tools were purchased in that mindset. I like to work on things and tools are the means to an end.

Last thing wasn't a tool, but a Tally counter.

Click, click, click, thought it was so cool and couldn't pass it up for 40 cents.
Always lookin' to learn
