I thought it was time to get this started. We are down to 23 degrees so far this morning with an expected high of 62 today. Our first hard freeze of the fall. Down in the valley it is 18 degrees.
-
Low 60s in the days ahead for DC. Night temps in the 40s. Time to order some wood and get the chimney liner cleaned this week.
The wood stove is ready to go -

my desk thermo said 24 but 20 on the car at about 7 am. maybe 60 for a high later this week but we have only been hitting 40's for the last week or so. below normal temps.
-
Darn Harlan and Deadnutz, that is chilly and then some.
Not sure how cold it got overnight but I did turn the heat on yesterday. Light jacket this morning.
Yesterday was cold, windy and very damp. Commented to a lady at church that I was ready for spring, She agreed :D

First light snow last night. Nothing on the pavement, but a wee bit on top of cars and grass this am.

It's a sunny 83° here, but it's gusty so it feels more like 78° or so.
-
Still haven't had a frost here but sounds like Thursday night it will happen
-
48 down here in South Texas, got another inch and 1/4 of rainfall. Probably real close to 10 inches of rain in the past 30 days.
-
73 over 39 here in Oregon's Heart.
-
60s in the days 40s at night. Have to clean out the wood stove, chimney sweep coming in a few weeks. We have Oil as a main heat source

Nice spring day here. Fine and clear skies since the weekend so a bit cool overnight 45F with a high of 65F. A bit windy out in the open (east end of Lake Rotoiti).

Well, the seasons between NZ and here in DC seem to have crossed. Our temps are just about the same. Also the dry sunny days are perfect for going outside and doing something.
-
:)
This is where I start to really love where I am.
You guys are chipping ice off the car windows and I am wondering where my jacket is.
-
Strik, you do seem to be a pretty content guy.
-
Low teens in the morning and an expected high of 52. We are actually below normal temps for this time of year. No snow yet but I hope we get plenty as we need the moisture.
-
... No snow yet but I hope we get plenty as we need the moisture.
A few winters ago we were up in Reno and drove back along the High Sierras. The snow markers looked they were 8 or 10 feet tall and there was at most an inch of snow on the ground and that only in spots. Quite surprising since the snow pack should have been at least half way up the markers.
-
We've had a few nights in the mid-20s, but so far have been pretty lucky on the snow front. We didn't have much of a fall foliage season because the cold rains came early and lasted through most of late October. That pretty much dumped most of the leaves off the trees in record time.
-
Cold and rainy here, highs around 50, lows around 30. Feels like January here. ???
-
80 degrees and windy here at my house thanks to a cold front. Should be warmer tomorrow. Running the ceiling fan on high.
-
70° and breezy, Thursday it was about 68° and real Gusty which was hell in and out of the freezer and sweeping the parking lot.
-
getting a cold front in today. down to 47 now with a windchill in the upper 30s. :-\ :-\ come on July...
-
Eastern Nebraska, just had our second snow of the season, both pretty early. Last few days has not topped 40, mornings with the windchill feels like 8F. Had 10 F on the enclosed porch already. Got things to do outside but darn, hate working with gloves and parka.
-
Gang,
Hit 32 degrees this a.m. (1st time this fall/winter). Afternoon temps have been low to mid 40's, overcast, and stiff winds out of the north. Winter is here.
-
We were in the high 20's long enough over the weekend to freeze water in birdbath any anything not sitting on the ground.
Might get some snow into Thursday morning but the ground is too warm for it to amount to much,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hope
-
30s during the night high 40s low 50s during the day. supposed to be cooler tomorrow night.

It hit 37* today which is way too cold for Miss in november. And they're calling for a high of 35* tomorrow :o
At least the minisplit is keeping up which is better than I expected.
-
Might hit single digits here tonight, average highs right now are upper 40s, today upper 20s. Sucks, I have 3 outdoor jobs going right now and can't complete any of them as I'm at the mercy of others having to get there shit done first. One will be going into January . Pulling wires today at one small job so I get them in before ground freezes. Another one I'm doing next tuesday but thats as far as I can go.
-
We're supposed to get snow tomorrow with daytime temps in the mid-upper 30's. DC traffic is going to be a mad-house. Makes me glad I'm semi-retired. I don't have to fight that crap anymore.
Walrus -- I'm sorry you have to wait on other contractors to finish their work before you can plan your schedule. Being in the trades is getting more popular these days, but when you're dependent on others for prioritizing your work schedule, then that's "the shyts"
Good luck!!!
-
It's currently a Balmy 21.... with a high of 31 predicted. I'm still only wearing a hoodie.... no need to break out the Carhartt yet.
-
Wow Walrus, getting cold quick up north. Have you guys had an extremely wet year like we have down here? We will likely set an annual record for rainfall on Thursday with over a month to go in the year
-
28 right now they were calling for 36 30 today. Forecast calls for wintery mix tonight around an inch of snow and ice .
-

My pond was down 5 ft a month ago, its overflowing now. We had a beautiful summer, about the middle of october that all changed. Rain and cold since then
-
We have the white death just starting today. Likely won't amount to much but I bet traffic will be bad
-
I have about 1" on the ground as of 08:35, and still coming down strong. Roads are a mess, and my wife reported that the grocery store shelves were bare last night. Typical first snow conditions in the DC area; everyone panics!
Glad I'm not part of the morning commute anymore --
-
Snowing pretty heavy here too at lunch time. Also high of 29 right now, it's chilly.

Well I was wrong. About 2 inches down and still snowing, roads are terrible and traffic, well I was right about that
-
Calling for 3-6" of the white stuff... Started about an hour ago.
-
It wasnt cold enough at the house (west central Ohio). We had about 3/8-1/2 of freezing rain this morning. I though I was being smart by putting the truck in the barn but the ice froze the barn doors shut. Finally at noon I was able to pry them open, I wish this had been snow.
-
It is 33 degrees and snowing now which is the first for us this year. It is a wet heavy snow that we call Sierra cement. I'll have to shovel it all off when it quits or it will turn to solid ice tonight as the temps drop into the low teens and possibly single digits. The ski resorts have been getting snow for almost 2 weeks now so they are happy to be building a good base.
-
It is supposed to be summer here but it has been raining for three weeks! 180mm (7") of rain over the weekend. Temperatures ranging from 60f overnight to 75 in the day.
-
Colder than a well diggers ass ...........
This is starting look like a cold winter ahead... I can tell you that :-\
Pep
-
Been mostly rain around the DC area, but this week a cold air high pressure area will hit and our temps will drop -- nighttime temps in the 20s. BRRRRRRR
-
Yeah high in the 40's today, cooler for the next couple and into the 20's at night.
-
High of low 30s here for the next 10 days.

High of 32 today and back in the 20's this evening. It spit snow all day and I will have some clearing to do in the morning. I will probably have to mop up a lot of water in the garage as the wife's car was covered with snow when she got home from work. If I just squeegee the water out it will freeze on the driveway and remain a long time.
-
-
Got down to 23 this morning and maybe a high of 34 today. I had to clear the driveway for the wife to get off to work. Sure glad we got her some new Yokohamas on her Subaru Tribeca on Black Friday. She made it the 4 miles down the hill to work ok but there were 8 vehicles in the ditches. We pretty much have chain controls on all the major roads.
-
Every time I read stories and see pics like yours, I'm glad I decided to look for retirement properties in the warmer southern states. Just can't take the cold like used to. It's 33º outside and I've the woodstove going early today -- even the dog didn't want a long walk today.

I like it here in a warmer western state but we do get winter here. The trade off is the summer with maybe one hundred degree day a year and 6 to 20% humidity. I'll take a little snow and below freezing temps over 90% plus humidity.

It was warmer this morning as it was only down to 11 degrees. Beats the single digit morning yesterday. At least our high is supposed to be above 40 which is better than the low 30's we were having. Eastern part of the state is below zero every morning lately.
-
We have been around freezing at night the last few days and into the 40's and low 50's during the day.
I think I heard it rained or snowed 190 days last year locally. No wonder my car wash customers are crying the blues
-
Loys of snow this last week. About 15 inches total. Temps are in the 20s today but 15 - 20 below several times over the last week. Highs in the l 20s to low 30s this next week.
-

Well at least we had no drought -- LOL. This last year was ridiculously wet; even for the DC area. The fall season was basically a wash as well. I'll take the 40s and 50s over the snow and ice any day though. Can't wait to move to a more temperate climate -- SOUTH!!!
-
Shocking here today, 82 :D
-
That's ok rural. It will reverse in 6 months and we will see who is laughing. ;)
-
its 42f here. this is the third cold spell we've had this year. Its been a tough winter in South Texas. ;)
-

It won't be too bad...
-
Thanks for posting that chart as it is very interesting. I thought you got colder temps than that but must just be the higher elevations. I guess I will have to check to see the difference in latitudes we are on.
-
Woke up this morning, 35 and a bit of snow. The mountains around town were totally covered - looked more like Colorado than Arizona.
Low tonight is supposed to drop to 26-27. So the roads will likely be iced. Not good going to work. Got all the preventative measures up and running. Luckily the wifes car is in the garage so her windows won't be iced.
-
I ran into snow one time in May east of Tucson. Surprised me. :o
-
Pretty mild here today, in the 40's. A year ago it was 3 F the radio said today
-
Luckily, the temp at the house only went to 30. Got colder in the valleys and low lying areas, but we didn't get hit with the forecasted hard freeze. I don't mind cold weather, but with houses built with the desert in mind - and don't get really cold most years - anything much below about 30 cause problems. Heck the last time it hit 18 the main water valve out by the street got stuck! And good luck calling the water company - their two service trucks were weeks out I'm sure! >:(
So, I'm glad the deep cold didn't materialize locally.
-

Tauranga sits at the same latitude as Richmond, VA. However, we sit beside a huge thermal sink, ie the sea, so tend not to have really low temperatures. Overall, nowhere in New Zealand is 100 miles from the sea. Also there is no towns (>1,000 pop.) higher than 2,500'
-
Gang,
This morning it was 45 degrees and overcast with no winds. This afternoon it is low 70's with light winds out of the south (meaning warmer temps and higher humidity's). This is fairly normal winter weather. Later in the week we are supposed to get rain, or so the weatherman says. We got shorted 5" of rain last year, but what the hell... Belton Lake is full (6 feet over what the Army Corps of Engineers likes to see).
At any rate, I hope you are all high & dry and near a well stocked refrigerator. :-\
-
Mid 30s during the day around here. Supposed to get a little colder during the next few nights.
Raining right now, bought tired of rain.
Average is about 40" a year last year we got about 60"

Breaking News-- Winter is finally here in Central Texas.
Morning temp was 31 degrees with popcorn snow (i.e. tiny balls of snow/ice) and stiff winds out of the north. The first snow of the winter and the year.
Current temp now is 32 degrees with a mix of rain and snow. Roads are slick.
Will see how things look in the morning when I let the hounds out for a squirt. Right now I'm going to fire up the fire place and see what's going on the Republican National News channel (i.e. Fox News).
-
On the weather report this morning they said it was 1 degree. I can't believe them as it was 3 degrees. ;D
-
It was 60 here yesterday, today 6 inches of snow

Well daylight savings ended on Sunday and it has cooled off. Lows over night of 50f with day time in low 70s. Although I stopped on the top of the Kaimai Ranges the other night coming home from Auckland to take a sunset photo and had to put a sweatshirt on, for the first time in five months.

Winter storm warning in the Sierras tonight with snow levels getting down to 6000' with 12 to 35 inches possible. Glad we sit at 5000' and not higher. Could be chain controls in the mountains tomorrow but I won't be up there.
-
We hit 90 today. ;D the only chains we need is to pull me outta the mud. :D
-
Thanks Curtis. Rub it in rub it in. I'll suffer through this and enjoy our summer humidity of teens or single digits.
-
Only in the 60's, but it's pouring rain right now.
-
Cold front came through about noon and just rain here but snow in the mountains. Snow level got down to 7,000' but we are at 5,000' so we're good. I can see the snow on the ski runs across the valley up by Lake Tahoe. It was in the 80's the last 3 days but 50's today and we may get below freezing tonight. Fall doesn't start for a few days yet. :o

Wish all of you in snow country all the best -- it's tough in the best of times, but the Farmer's Almanac is calling for a really bad winter this season. I'm already scouring Craigs List for firewood for the woodstove this winter. I usually go through 1-1/2 cords

Triple digits have been broken - down to mid/high 90's this week. A little rain. The monsoon this year was terrible.
Lows are low/mid 70's. the end of the summer is near! 8)
-
I think the Farmer's Almanac, just might be correct, the leaves a falling like mad here. Started a month, month and a half ago. At first thought it was rain related, now the yard getting full every other day.
Oh well happens every year ;D
A glowing statement ^

As much as I dislike snow, I make a lot of money if we have a lot of snow selling tools and pressure washers to guys plowing, not to mention more soap to my regular customers.

Yup -- some guys make a good living in the winter. The guy that does my yearly lawn weeding, tree trimming, and seeding confided in me that his winter snowplowing brings his small business into profitability for the year. Without that revenue, he couldn't survive strictly on mowing and yard work during the spring, summer and fall.

Which is something considering it's only a handful of days a year.
