Cracked wood stove
« on: January 21, 2020, 06:17:33 PM »
Any solutions other than welding?
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

I`m 99% it`s cast iron. With a ceramic coating.

Grind it out a bit to get rid of the coating. build a good fire in it, get it hot and braze it up. let the fire slowly go out when your done for the day. be good to go.  ;D  maybe.

That's good advice -- you can also use a good nickel electrode instead of brazing. It's a bit more complicated using nickel, but it will take the heat cycles better than brazing material.

I got a tube of nickle rods a while back. I want to try them on my next cast iron repair. but I know the brass works.

Screw a plate of steel over it to patch the crack and hold the halves together.

Maybe furnace cement under the steel plate?  Is it leaking smoke?
