If you're feeling blue, how about some orange. Photo thanks to Paul at the V-Dub Shoppe.

I'm going to post this in here to try and keep it all together.

This morning I flew out of Tauranga at 6am to Christchurch on holiday. This weekend was supposed to be the National Offroad Racing Finals, but due to Covid restrictions, for the second year in a row they have been cancelled. I did consider cancelling my holiday but since I have so much accumulated annual leave that I'm constantly being hassled about taking it, I decided to still go.

Picked up my rental car and headed south. It was not quite what I was expecting. I had booked a small SUV and thought I was getting a Mitsubishi ASX. I was quite keen to try a petrol version of this vehicle because I drive a diesel version for work. I ended up with this Holden Trax. It is one of the new breed of small turbochsrged petrol engined vehicles. It is only 1400cc but goes really well.

Headed an hour or so south to catch up with Mark (Midnitemack) and deliver his Trademe purchase I picked up for him a few weeks ago.

This is the seed crop in the paddock next door to Mark's place.

Mark see his mate, the Gooserooter, who is building a tractor pulling sled.

This is his Fordson with the V8 Cummins in it that he built recently.

Next stop was Geraldine Vintage Car and Machinery Club Museum. This is an impressive establishment. (OK I'm going to dump the photos in the next few posts them come back and label them)

Just out of Geraldine is a private museum that has only been open for a couple of years.

This was the last stop before heading inland to Lake Tekapo.

At Burke's Pass store.

At the designated photo spot.

Lake Tekapo.

Thanks Rural. Looks like a good amount of important history saved in those museums.

Today was a scenery day.

Church of the Good Shepherd, pre dawn.

The Sheepdog Memorial.

Did I mention I got a free room upgrade with a lake view.

Next stop, after breakfast was the Canterbury University Mt John Observatory above Tekapo.

For the last few years they have been charging $8 to use their private road to the summit. I have to say it is probably the best $8 in tourism I've ever spent. The observatory is at 3,500', 1,000' above the lake.

I then headed south towards Twizel. This town was built in 1968 to house workers on the Upper Waitaki Hydroelectric Scheme.

Scenery on the way.
