Title: Nut drivers
Post by: muddy on June 17, 2023, 10:25:19 PM
Got this set of nut drivers off eBay. Says Made In USA. Wondering if anyone knows what brand they are? Don't think they are excelite?

Look like they're from the 1970s.  No guess as to the manufacturer though.

I've seen these before, they're cheapies from great neck or G.C.co or something like that.

I've had/have several screwdrivers over the years that had no markings other then the "Made in USA" line.
Decent users, handles are usually heavily fluted like your examples. They work, but nothing to write home about.

Seems like the Cooper versions I sold a few years ago (gifted to me), here is a current (not mine) listing:

Definitely similarities on those

Do you gag when they get close to your noose?

I've never had a stinky screwdriver handle that wasn't translucent, and assumed acetate was translucent by nature.

While I have full sets of both SAE and metric nut drivers for years, I rarely ever recall using one. I seem to always grab and use the nut driver handles in my 1/4" sets, and my 3/8" nut driver handles. I prefer those because I can always add a ratchet if needed which I like.

I had a Craftsman set and gave them away.
If I need anything nut driver like I'll use a spinner handle, the hollow shaft of a good nut driver has never been something I've needed.
I suppose they're just one of those tools you either truly need / prefer, or they're not.

While I don't recall using mine even once, I would not get rid of them because of their hollow shafts.

You never know when you will encounter a job that requires that feature is the sole reason I keep them, and many other odd tools I have yet to need.

10-4  I used to use nutdrivers as designed till I switched to 1/4" drive sockets and accessories. But I kept the 5/16" nutdriver for the hollow shaft. Many times fan blower wheels on small motors were attached with allen screws. Long before they had allen T-handles all I had were regular L-allen wrenches. Many times you couldn't get enough leverage to break the screw free. I slid the hollow nutdriver over the allen wrench and used it as a cheater. Worked wonders!

It's also why I didn't jump on magnetic nut drivers, as you could use it as a cheater.
