Got me big wrench today
« on: December 04, 2018, 12:53:02 AM »
Or at least it is the biggest i have got so far..Sunex tools 36 mm combination wrench. 17 bucks on Amazon.  This will be used on the stubborn fan clutch bolt on my Ranger that just laughed at the flimsy stamped steel wrench in the fan clutch tool from Autozone.

Someones happy with the box end purchase, less so with the open end.

Nice job on the purpose built tool. Is the clutch removed with a reverse thread?

Nope, it is a normal thread.  But it has been on the truck for 22 years lol (ford 4.0)

I had an 87 Ranger with the 2.9L V6. I used my Diamond monkey wrench to get the fan clutch off. I can't remember if it was reverse thread or not.

Yeah, the 2.9 was reverse thread.  The 4.0 replaced the 2.9 in 1990 i think.  My 97 has been a great truck for the almost 14 years that i have owned it

I would say that is a great price for a 36mm wrench.  And Sunex is normally good stuff, and its hard to hurt a wrench that big

... its hard to hurt a wrench that big

Not if you tell it you like the 37mm better.
People who confuse etymology and entomology bug me in ways I can’t put into words.

It worked admirably in breaking the fan clutch nut free.

Some observations for this economy wrench.  Build quality in general is very good.  Finish quality is where it suffers.  There are several small and sharp burrs all over, which is really the only gripe that i have.  Chrome plating looks good.  There is no polished ends on it, the finish is brushed on the wrench faces and logo/ size portion on the handle.  To be honest, it looks pretty good as is without the polished accents.  The size is stamped into both ends and on both sides which is nice especially if you have several wrenches of the same brand and close to each other in size, it will be easy to pick out the one you need.  The manufacturer logo looks to be laser etched on the handle rather than stamped.

Overall, this is a great buy for just a bit over 17 bucks.  The nearest competition was at about 40 bucks.

I give it a 4.5 wrench review

I agree but wow he has a small head, fits in a 36 mm wrench :))

Liked the photo when I saw it, quite ingenious
