Family heirloom of bookbinding Formulas
« on: December 09, 2018, 04:57:54 PM »
My grandfather-in-law was a bookbinder by trade. I inherited his handwritten book of formulas and glue recipes, with leather cover and gold leaf accented binding. Probably from the early to mid 1900's. It's deteriorating badly (probably 80-90 years old) but even in this condition it reveals his craftsmanship.
I don't understand it all - plus his handwriting was very fancy with lots of flourishes - but it's a keeper. Of a trade and from a time that has long since vanished from everyday life.

Wow, that's some nice handwriting. I don't think I can even write cursive anymore. Hell my printing is barely legible.

My handwriting is halfway between the two.

As asked in the very near future...Book? what the hell is a book?
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

That is awesome and a real treasure. Magnificent handwriting.

In HS print shop we made a bound book. A lot of work and there is a real art to it.

Had an great-uncle who was a master bookbinder and it was just amazing watching a centuries old craft executed in the same manner as all those many years ago.
