Title: The old vise gets saved

Pulled from the scrap pile to get a new use in life.  If I cannot save the original screw it will be replace with another.  The jaws are good and the slide straight.

Probably a 50 year old Torillo Bros 5" no. 4, a trusted name in vises in Mexico. 

Free was a good price.

Nice save! Always like to see vises pulled form the scrap heat and kept working.

Even with a damaged screw these bigger ones command about 200 pesos in the markets.  My boss seen no value in it and wouldn't pay for a fix on it.  So now I get a chance at it.

Are you going to replace it with an ACME, or just fit an appropriately sized machine screw and a new nut?

First attempt is a file and form to see if it works well enough. 

If that fails a new screw of yet undetermined qualities will be fit.  It doesn't have to be as strong as the factory version was, just to open and clamp with moderate pressure.  Its heavy duty workdays are done.
