It was meant to impress on the customer that the SUN technician was a trained professional -- akin to a doctor or engineer. SUN had an ad and marketing department that owners re-invent their business model. Clean organized shops along with properly dressed and courteous personnel were at the time considered to be the hallmark of a SUN equipped service center -- no matter how small that business was. SUN provided a lot of pre- and post sale support to their customers; not only on the use of their equipment, but also in the marketing, sales, and promotion of the business.
