Bzzzzzz........bzzzzzzz........bzzzzzzz......then.......
« on: December 13, 2018, 06:51:25 PM »
….silence.

Why?

No more bees!

Long story short, I discovered bees under the back shed in April, and struggled with getting them under control. They would fly under the shed and I would not know how to get them. But being faced with a problem, I knew I would eventually solve it without professional help….and ….(wait for it)……..(hold on)……..(almost there)…….

Not a single sting!

Here’s the money shot.

Yeah, yeah...I know. We need bees, but I sure dont need them near the shed door.

 ;)

Bad ons...
Did you try contacting a bee guy? they`d remove them for free or better still bring a hive over and transfer them into it for you to keep.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

I found some in the wall of my house, got a bee keeper to vacuum them out.   Took most of a day.   Got it sealed up and they did not return.   Guy told me later he extracted some 55 lbs of honey!, and yes he gave me some.  Good luck on the bees.

ohhhh...they were home, but Dr OnS Doom sent them away.

Bee keepers want nothing to do with wild bees, nor will fire depts use foam to rid places of bees. That's the experience I have had here in the southwest.

Yeah you have to be careful they`re not Africanised bees... very aggressive but they may be the hope of the bee species though . Tough and disease resistant.

Watch a movie called "more than just honey" you`ll be glad you did.

No Africanized bees or fire ants here which makes me happy. In L.A. we had a big swarm land on our office window behind the security bars and next to the front door. I called a bee guy and he wanted big bucks to come remove it. I filled a big sprayer with dish soap and hot water and managed to kill most of them without getting stung. I like and appreciate bees but not for several hundred dollars.

Up here you`d have bee keepers fighting to come get the swam for free.. hell I`d do it.

Hey, here's a 3 year later update.  :)

Same shed, same south facing side, but there (wait for it......coming soon......almost there........) BEE a new swarm of them buggers holed up in a spare tire I had squirreled away for a trailer or tractor. WTF! Those 7.00 x 15 tires are hard to come by, so I keep a spares on hand for various implements.

Yes, my first calls were to try and get a beekeeper to take them away, but after a dozen calls, its all a "for-profit venture" these days, running about $150, and some say they will rehome them, others make them take the long never-ending nap. Hey, what could go wrong with a DIY solution? I'm with you, and dont really want to do harm to this fragile insect.

First up...the location, and the platform of doom. The tire "bee home" is on the left side, the tire will be laid down on the platform and covered with a disc blade for soapy application through a garden hose. All with hopes of having no prisoners escape (or stings).

I head out tonight for the deed.

Whaaaaaaat? Silly me. Feast your eyes on this redneck solution!

Pic 1 - the pain is about to come shot
Pic 2 - the inside workings of a soap bowl that kept it separate from the incoming water stream
Pic 3 - the aftermath. (cue a sad song of your choice)

It was successful, if I may be so bold as to make that claim.  :)
