Plate steel bumper for a Cat backhoe

Start it with some 5/8 amd 3/4" steel plate.  Torch cut and grind until everyone in the shop hates me andthen zap it up.

The front plate is 32 X 6" in 3/4" plate so its not all that big, more to be the first point of contact with the loader arms up.  This protects the oil tank and support.

I waa able to carry it alone.  Can't say that anyone would carry it very far however.
Build it big the first time and never worry for having to redo it.

Today it got on the tractor and fit.  And then the boss wanted a grill over the tank to add upper protection.

All we had laying loose was a 1970 Cat 951 crawler loader radiator grill.  Deep in the tall grass under a pile of final drive parts but we had one.
It was the wrong shape and size, none of the bolts fit but that wasn't a problem.

Thank you, but really that was not a precise job.  More hack and zap using fill weld to hide my crooked cuts.

The boss loves precise and a good strong result, he got the most important one.  I have no idea what can destroy 3/4" steel plate with 5/8" ribs behind it.  But I am sure we will see sooner or later.

A long term benefit of this one is the hydraulic pump lines are serviceable without removing the bumper, unlike the original design from the factory.  It has come in handy already for a leaky connections.  The regular operator likes it for that.  It has compensated for bad brakes in loading trucks too.  He kept crashing into the rear tire.
