forney 20p plasma cutter
« on: April 05, 2020, 03:38:11 PM »
i have been watching this on clearance at my local tsc. it was part of the christmas promo and never sold so it has been there since at least last thanksgiving. it had gone to clearance around the first of the year and had dropped since then to 279. i know the mager fairly well and he finally accepted my offer of 175 bucks so it came home with me.

not a big machine. 20 amps and rated for 1/4 cut with a max of 3/8. it has  a 20 amp plug but comes with a 15 amp adapter for reduced output. pretty no frills with just an on off stitch, power output dial and spare set of consumables.

i unboxed it. plugged it in, hooked up the air line and made some sparkes. it seemed to cut 1/4 inch plate with no problem.

That's a good old brand.
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

here is a shot of the metal burning corner of my shop. nothing fancy but it works. the welding table i scratch built,  miller 211 auto set on a northern tool cart, smith torch set on cart and  of course the cut 20 forney. just out of view is my ancient makita chop saw and mag drill.

I can't do any torch work or welding in my shop as I have epoxy floors plus something would probably catch fire. I do everything outside the front door as I don't like grinding anywhere near the lathe or mill. The only problem is that sometimes projects get put on hold due to snow or wind.

Great buy on the plasma and TSC is one of the easiest places to deal with on some things so they are a go to place for me.

Nice score, and good set up.
MAGA

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, it must be electrical.

Nice deal there. and nice space to work.

I too do all my welding work outside. Too much flammables in the shop.

I would recommend hitting ebay or somewhere and stocking some consumables. Never know when those will change and you need the style you have. I love ours(ebay special). It sure does mow through some metal.
