C130 nick name gun ship.

john k:
Is that on permanent display?   Lots of firepower to be just sitting.   I always wondered what the mini-guns firing does to the airframe?

Not much compared to the 40mm Bofors and the 105mm howitzer!

Yes on display, air frame is beefed up and inspected regularly . It's called a major overhaul, engines removed, plane jacked, landing gear tested, every system is checked, inspected reinstalled.

Plane is spotted, secured, spun up ........ think dyno. Checked for leaks, flight controls and so on.

In a jet, that is a hell of a ride.  Testing the after burners, plane noses over.  Almost to the point of bottoming out the nose gear

The chalks are massive, from the tarmac too about a foot higher then the top of the tire, main gear.

Yes, there is a port just behind the 2 cannons to the rear, but covered.

The 105mm gun is the same as on the M-60 tank.  Above the gun tube is a hydraulic cylinder that takes up the recoil, inside the tank is still an awesome shock.  Can see from the videos the gun mount is well insulated, but darn, is still bolted into aluminum.
