Had a Red Tail hawk watching me mow the little pasture across the road. He stayed on the tree until I hit one of the limbs with the tractor. He was hoping a field rat would get run out with the mowing. Pretty bird.

We have not had any snow or precipitation since Christmas day/night. We still have this in our north facing ditch 6 weeks later. That is how much the wind drifted it.

Look at you go Bob! -- very impressive Sir. I have a small lake behind the house, and all I get is 2-3lb bass on a good day (if I'm lucky). I can only dream of that kind of fishing.

We have tons of big coons right in town. Occasionally possums,  foxes, owls, and once or twice even deer! And that is right in the middle of town! No woods nearby or thickets or any kind and an overabundance of squirrels that nest in the many big trees in the area. Was that feeder mine it would be a squirrel convention. The coons live in the sewers in my area.

During my early flying days on the E-3 Sentry we had a number of the "old timers" who flew on EC-121 in SE Asia.

There is one on display near the AWACS wing at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

It is a Challenger, a spec class buggy similar to a SCORE Class 1/2-1600 buggy. It is based on VW Beetle running gear, with the Type 1 swing axle and link pin front end. It has no additional suspension, coilovers etc, meaning it has limited suspension travel and driver comfort (definitely a young person's game and the reason I don't drive one any more).  The engine is 1641cc max (87mm barrels and pistons) running avgas through a 34PICT 3 carb at 11:1 compression ratio. The carb limits the revs so there is not much chance of blowing up an engine (you do that by rolling it and dislodging the oil cooler and leaking oil during an enduro race, ask me how I know). Gearbox ratios are free and we fit close ratio gears eliminating the big gap between 2nd and 3rd. Disc brake conversion all round is the norm, with cutter brakes on the rear. With the bigger tyres fitted, on the wide open forest roads at the Woodhill 100 enduro race they will do about 90mph, which is pretty exhilarating, even more so when a big Class 1 passes you at that speed like you're parked.

Photo 1 - Naked - not long after I bought it. It still has drum brakes on the front. The Class 7 beside it is also a Cougar chassis buggy. Class 7 is 1200cc with standard gearbox
Photo 2 - Naked for cleaning after a race meeting
Photo 3 - My mate's Cougar chassis Challenger pretending to be my buggy so I could compete in the final round of a race series. I finished third on the day and second for the series
Photo 4 - If it is a rental, drive it lke you stole it!

Photo 1 - Rolled it in the short course at the National Finals
Photo 2 - Snapped the spindly king pin. I think the were designed to go down a smooth autobahn not over jumps and rough paddocks
Photo 3 - The fix install King Kong spindles (left) and do a disc brake conversion at the same time. Standard VW on the right

Since I got the bike back together after doing the fork upgrade. I had the kids help me wash it. Then I polished it.

All the things say about Harley (good or bad) there is no way anyone can convince another motorcycle company has paint as deep and beautiful as Harley. And their chrome and over all appearance is second to none. You may like another style of bike, but I don't think any of them have the fit and finish.

I'm sure my potato phone camera doesn't do it justice but if you've been around them you understand.

FPV Drone 0 - Class One Buggy 1

Action from our National Offroad race meeting the other weekend.
The drone came out second best after it got downed by a large mud clump and then run over by a Class 1 buggy.

Amazing drone control footage. That was entertaining! Flying through the trees and a sign was impressive. And the racing looked fun also.

Friday night I went to the Civil Contractors NZ local branch construction awards, unfortunately our project didn't win in the over $5M class. It was held in the hanger at Classic Flyers, the local aviation museum, amongst the airplanes. This is a Grumman Avenger (NZ2505) and was the first Avenger to arrive in NZ in 1943 and flew with RNZAF 30 Sqn. It was retired in 1959 and for many years was stored at at various location until it arrived at Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society. It has been loaned to Classic Flyers, to allow its restoration to operational static condition. When I lived in Gisborne I was a member of Gisborne Aviation Preservation Society and I was there when we acquired the Avenger.

Must have been a thrill to be a part of that preservation group. What an experience to be that close to historic airplanes.
