More Power!
« on: March 13, 2021, 03:47:17 PM »
For years I've tried to find the best way to cut back the Pampas grass that I have in my backyard.  Machete, hedge trimmers, clippers among other things have led to much work and cursing.  I always avoided trying the chain saw because I thought the very sharp and tough fronds would catch and clog up the sprocket and possibly whip around.

Today after working on the first clump for almost an hour with the battery hedge clippers I fired up the Stihl and zipped through the four remaining without a problem.  There was some catching around the sprocket but easily removed.

When in doubt - MORE POWER!

I'll start with this little barrinton pattern machete

And step it up to this Bolo pattern I recently got before breaking out the stihl.

This bad mother is a real workhorse,  but it's still light and nimble.
The steel sings like crazy too.

Theres always call gas power though,  and it gets used when theres more than just a little area to deal with.

But I'm someone who has an appreciation for machetes,  I currently have 8 that see frequent use.

Never heard of the Barrinton,  it has the same shape as a WWII army Bolo knife, which was a very effective  blade.

Fairly similar in shape, but this one is of a thin stock.
As all good south American made machetes are it's light and fast.

Btw my phone keeps autocorrecting me, it's actually a Barrigon pattern.
Apparently Barrigon means pot bellied, so I'm told.
