Anyone recognize this shop?
« on: October 08, 2023, 03:50:30 PM »
I was returning to Morgantown Pa. from a day touring the countryside in my 1914 Cadillac. And spotted this garage.

Pretty Cool OCG! Forgot to tell everyone that I was "Moonlighting" in PA.   ;)

Actually the "Goodfellow" that is my forum namesake is a mystery. Back in the late 1970's I rented a long unused warehouse space for my personal garage activities. While going through the attic and cleaning up, I found a beautiful old sign that advertised "Goodfellow's Garage". I cleaned it up and mounted it over the bay door entrance. Over the course of the year people started to refer to the place as Goodfellow's Garage when talking about the building, or when giving directions to others; as in {Go down Lamp Street and turn left at Goodfellow's Garage). So by sheer circumstance I became "Goodfellow" to all that passed by the old garage.

I did some research on the place and no one at the county records office or the Chamber of Commerce could ever point to the fact that a Goodfellow's Garage had ever existed in that building, or even that city.   :smiley_confused1:

Do you still have the sign?
Is the need enough? Or does the want suffice?

Unfortunately not. When I left the place some years later the sign was still hanging over the main bay door. I visited the place in the early 90's, and the block of warehouses/shops/garages was all gone -- progress I guess.

You should make a copy just for the hell of it.

You're right Jabber! Over the years I've considered the idea several times, but something always came up to sidetrack the effort. At this point in my life I guess it's now or never, and I will make an effort to recreate the sign from memory, and at least have it in a digital file format as a reference; should I decide to actually make a physical version at some point.

There is someone on ebay hand painting vintage looking signs and even reproducing old advertising signs. They are absolutely beautiful and seemed reasonably priced to me. You can get one special order with your name on it. Check it out!
You boys better hold on cause I'm gonna have to stand on it!
