They still use 6v53 Detroits in 60k’s in my shop. They have a very distinctive sound.

When I worked the petrochoems they had some v16s pulling pumps in the fire suppression system. We had to test run them monthly. Nothing like seeing a 12in stream of water shooting 150ft out into the emergency basin. Most impressive machines. been hooked ever since. :-*

I stop and  look when I hear one of those 2 cycles screaming by.    The US Army M-113 APC used a V6 Detroit Diesel,  it was muffled down but still only 2 feet from the driver,  hard to ignore.

For a while you could get the old 671s pretty reasonable around here. you just had to take the rest of the shrimp boat with it.  :))

I used to drive a GMC tilt cab hauling lumber and plywood that had the small Detroit in it. I used to laugh as I was driving down main boulevards in the city. Every time I approached a bus stop the people waiting there would stand up and move to the curb thinking their bus was coming. :D

You think it would be worth it?

looks like its in a boat, won`t the generator be corroded?
I know jack about these things.

Its 3 phase but may be rewireable to 240/120 but at less than the rated 30kw. For $525 I would take a look. The Engine's probably worth that.

It looks well cared for if it is on a boat and some corrosion would be inevitable. It says 4-5000 hours on a rebuild. They may know it is close to time for a new one and don't want to get stuck out to sea with no generator.
